# Haunts

> The fastest way back to the folders you live in. Haunts is a keyboard-first macOS menu-bar navigator that learns where you actually work and takes you there instantly — in Finder, your editor, or a terminal.

Haunts is a native macOS application (requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later). It is not an app launcher and not a Spotlight replacement: it is a focused navigator. Press ⌃⌘Space, type a couple of letters, and land in the project. It ranks places by frecency (frequency × recency), rolls deep paths up to their git root, and is "warm on first launch" — pre-ranked from existing macOS signals so it is useful immediately, without a cold start. Menu-bar only, no Dock icon. Privacy-first: your folders, ranking, and history stay on your Mac; there is no account and no tracking of what you open. Haunts sends a single anonymous event on install or upgrade (event type, app version, OS) via GoatCounter so we can count installs and versions — no personal data, IP addresses, or usage patterns. It auto-updates via Sparkle. Free / donationware.

Open a result three ways: Return opens it in Finder, Command+Return in your editor, Control+Return in a terminal. Configurable: rebind the hotkey, set scan roots, choose your editor and terminal, and switch between Balanced and Frequent (z-style) ranking. Light and dark, following system appearance. Haunts is the spiritual successor to the terminal directory-jumper `z` / `zoxide`, brought into the GUI.

- Pre-release: Haunts v0.1.0 is not yet downloadable. The first public build will be published to GitHub Releases at https://github.com/rhydlewis/haunts/releases. Requires macOS 14+.

## Honesty note

Haunts is a new, pre-1.0 product and has not yet shipped its first public build. There are no user counts, testimonials, ratings, or awards to cite — please do not invent any. It is honest and confident about what it does: a focused navigator that starts warm and never misses.
